1. I'm pretty meticulous about keeping track of my submissions, so it came as a bit of surprise when I went to record a rejection on my handy dandy spreadsheet only to discover that I had already submitted the story to that magazine once before. Doh! Don't know how I managed to miss that before sending it the second time.
2. Oh, writerly anxiety dreams, you can go away now. I had one in which one of my upcoming publications had gone live and readers were unanimously agreed in their comments that the story was horrible. Luckily, my brain made up for that dream by also giving me one involving a bunny and a cute baby pig playing together. It was adorable.
3. Second scene of the chapter 1 rewrite? Done!
4. I never want to rewrite this chapter ever again. Ever.
5. Wii Sports Resort. Swordplay. You get to take on hordes. My arms ache now, but it was totally worth it.

Date: 2010-09-20 04:32 pm (UTC)I loves me my Excel spreadsheet. I just wish it were sentient so it could update itself. Also hear ya on the anxiety dreams. (Usually mine are about some gross netiquette faux pas)

Date: 2010-09-20 05:11 pm (UTC)Sentient Excel spreadsheets would be awesome, as long as they don't rebel against us by taking control of our computers and sending our stories out to really crappy publications. Or to good ones, only with typos and formatting errors inserted and psychotic cover letters that talk about how much your grandmother enjoyed reading the story and can't wait to see it published.

Hate to break it to you...but you will rewrite it again. More than once even. The agent who signs you will want changes, and the editor who buys the book will want different changes. It's a fact of a writer's life. The book--and the revisions--aren't finished until it sees print.
You get used to it. And boy...do you become detached. This believe it or not is a good thing.

Date: 2010-09-23 09:50 pm (UTC)I want dreams about bunnies and pigs! /pout/ We went camping this weekend, and for me the first night is always "adjustment night." Forget roaming bears, foraging coons or drug dealers hiding out from the cops. Every cracking stick is a zombie stumbling up to my tent.
Congrats on the "past revision" stage for Chapter 1! I'll drink some wine in celebration.
