babarnett: (kermit needs coffee)

Sorry to resurface with nothing but pimpage, but it's about all I have time for until the Semester Workload from Hell is over. That said, onto the shameless self-promotion:

* Yesterday I was lying; today I'm babbling about suspension of disbelief and what the phrase actually means over at Penumbra eMag's blog.

* I've added my story "The Wounded House" (originally published in issue 20 of Black Static) to my stories available for purchase at AnthologyBuilder.

* And I'm dreadfully behind in giving a shout out for this, but Not Just Rockets and Robots: Daily Science Fiction Year Onewhich includes my stories from Daily Science Fiction's first year of publishing ("God's Gift to Women" and "A Song Never Tasted"), is available for purchase.

Hey, if you can't shamelessly pimp on your own blog, where can you pimp? ;)

Just left a comment on your "suspension of disbelief" post as Heather H. I was nodding my head the whole time I read it!

Yes, especially if they're in the zones. Hopefully things will calm down soon though I suspect you'll have more work to do over the holidays;o(

I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the story you subbed to that market I read slush for, and that I hope you don't change a thing about it. I'm sure it will be accepted somewhere soon. I hope it will, anyway.

Aaaaw, thanks, Pam! Sadly, it seems to be turning into one of those stories where everyone loved it in critiques, yet I can't sell the dang thing. :(

Crap! replied and then somehow hit a wrong key and lost it! So what did I say? well, something about I don't understand the other's comments because I thought the humor of the wind/elements was enough to carry the story through. But if you did want to re-look at the middle, maybe the troll could be more threatening somehow? Or Adda would have to give something up (besides Gran's company, of course) in order for Gran to achieve her wish? Of course I was the one who cried, so I'm really rooting for this one and hope you'll let me know when it does sell.

That was probably the most frustrating thing for me with that rejection--based on comments when I had an early draft critiqued, adding more tension to the middle was exactly what I had tried to do in revision, and I felt like I had accomplished that (originally poor little Gunther didn't get his neck turned backwards and the flickers didn't need to be coaxed in helping light the way). *sigh* I'm planning to leave things as they are since I'm happy with the story as is and feel like pushing things further in the tension department would make it far more grim than I want it to be. I just wish an editor somewhere would agree!

My husband and I were planning to go out to dinner, but I've unfortunately come down with a cold, so that may get postponed. Not the best start I've ever had to my birthday, sadly.
